Cultivar epithet: 'Kawauchi' Species/hybrid: Heliconia bihai x caribaea Description: Erect inflorescence, 5 to 7 distichous bracts, red with narrow gold-yellow lip proximally, extending distally on upper bracts, tip green, basal bract green over most of keel, rachis red becoming yellow between upper bracts, sepals green on distal half and white below, ovary and pedicel white. Vegetation musoid, with white waxy coating on stem, petiole and lower midrib. Height 12 to 14 feet. Publication: Berry, F. and W.J. Kress. 1991. Heliconia: An identification guide.
